Why Appco Australia encourages staff to cultivate emotional intelligence

It’s not surprising that EQ and success go hand-in-hand – EQ forms the foundation for a host of vital skills business professionals use daily including decision making, time management, communication, and networking.
While having high EQ certainly has its advantages, most people haven’t fully developed this competency – but, the good news is, it can be cultivated. Appco Australia recognises the benefits EQ provides to its employees and the company, and offers a professional development workshop so staff can increase their knowledge and enhance their emotional skills.
Appco Australia’s National Learning and Development Manager Greig Ward recently facilitated an EQ workshop and said: “As a people-focused business, not only is it important that staff have the technical skills to do their jobs, it’s also essential that they have the softer skills typically associated with EQ. “Usually, people with high EQ are good listeners, can cope with stressful situations, are supportive of and have the ability to motivate others – these are ideal characteristics to have in business.
“Since offering the workshops, we’ve noticed a positive influence across the company. As a team, our performance and efficiency has improved and on an individual basis, staff are able to identify their own strengths and weaknesses, and how their behaviours may impact others.”
