Why we’re giving underwear instead of flowers this Valentine’s Day
This week, staff from Appco Australia have donated underwear and other necessities to Wayside Chapel’s Valentine’s Day appeal.
“Valentine’s Day and Wayside Chapel are all about sharing the love and this year we are asking people to donate new and pre-loved clothing instead of money, says Jon Owen, Assistant Pastor at Wayside Chapel.
“The campaign gives people the unique opportunity to gift essentials like new undies to someone sleeping rough. All Valentine’s Day donations will ensure that Wayside Community Services Centre is properly stocked with emergency clothing supplies in all sizes throughout the year. The goal is that these donations will help Wayside support visitors to move towards health and better days.”
Many of Appco Australia’s staff have purchased items or donated second-hand items to the appeal. Employee Gabriella Briganti says: “I’d rather spend my Valentine’s Day money on things people will need rather than flowers and chocolates. I feel good when I give back, it just feels like the right thing to do.”
