Appco Australia employee walks 50 kilometres to tackle poverty

Staff from Appco Australia have backed their colleague Greig Ward in Oxfam Trailwalker – a 50-kilometre hike from Melbourne to the Warburton Valley – to raise money for people living in poverty.

Through their workplace giving program, The Appco Gives Back Foundation, employees donated $500 to Oxfam Australia.

“This was the fifth time I participated, and it was no easier than the first few hikes I did, says Greig.

“I walked with a group of friends for over nine hours, and for half that time it rained persistently. We were feeling pretty uncomfortable and tired, but we knew it was temporary – our sense of humour and purpose to help others living in poverty kept us motivated.”

Greig has raised over $1,800 for Oxfam Australia, a charity that works with local communities globally to help tackle poverty. The charity helps disadvantaged people create their own sustainable solutions such as clean water, teaching skills, growing food and advocating for basic rights.

Each month, Appco Australia employees nominate not-for-profit charities and causes they would like to support. Since the initiative began, the Foundation has donated to various charities from indigenous programs and youth outreach support to medical research.

The Appco Gives Back Foundation is governed by Good2Give, which is a not-for-profit organisation registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission that helps businesses and donors to give.
